Award of Merit, Health Care: Diamond Children's Medical Center
This family-centered facility actively involves the hospitalized child's parents in all aspects of the child's care and accommodates their physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs. Thirty-six beds in the neonatal intensive care unit include special "nesting rooms," where parents can stay with their children long term and simulate their home environment. The project also houses a blood/marrow transplant room and pediatric emergency center. The colorful, child-friendly surroundings house playrooms on each floor, a teen activity room, a library and a healing garden.
