Steve Hoye, a 35-year veteran with JE Dunn, has been promoted to director of field operations for the Southwest Region, including Arizona and Las Vegas. Hoye's prior work includes healthcare, corrections, commercial and power generating facilities.
Philip Daugherty has joined JE Dunn as senior project superintendent. Daugherty has nearly 20 years of construction experience, starting as a carpenter on commercial projects in Nashville before moving to Phoenix to work on high-tech projects and later healthcare.
Luis Duarte has been appointed regional safety director. Duarte has more than ten years of experience in construction, manufacturing and risk management/safety including both contractor- and owner-controlled insurance programs. Duarte has over a dozen safety related certifications.
Chad Kemmerling has joined JE Dunn as senior estimator, bringing 11 years of diverse industry experience. In his role, Kemmerling oversees preconstruction services for all projects in Arizona and Nevada and leads the estimating team.
Jeffrey L. Zucker, principal of Catalyst Architecture, is returning to his roots as the resident architect at Arcosanti. From 1978 through 1981, Zucker was employed at Arcosanti, first as the construction supervisor of the Soleri Residence and Studio and then as the project architect of the Collie Soleri Performing Arts Center.
Zucker will be a part time consultant mentoring young architectural students and helping to provide direction to future projects at the Urban Laboratory. Zucker is currently co-designing the interior of a studio apartment within the Crescent at Arcosanti, where he will reside when consulting at Arcosanti.
Marie Gervais has joined ABA Architects. Gervais is LEED accredited and is currently working towards a masters degree in architecture with a concentration in design and energy conservation at the University of Arizona. She brings experience in architectural design and project management for mixed-use commercial, residential and military projects around the world, including Germany, England, Japan, Korea, the Azores and Greenland.
Territory Inc. appointed Sheena Zauder to assistant property manager. In her previous position, she was assistant commercial property manager for Triple Five Nevada Development. She is currently working towards a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas as well as obtaining a real estate sales license and property management certificate.
Territory also added Deron Conway to its leasing department. In his position, Conway will specialize in the retail leasing of Territory’s commercial properties.
Conway has nearly 20 years of commercial real estate experience with over ten years working in the Las Vegas market, most recently as director of commercial properties for Focus Property Group and as a senior leasing executive for Weingarten Realty’s local office.
Judy Klein Romero has been named an associate partner by Ensemble Real Estate. Klein Romero is senior vice president of Ensemble responsible for the property management, leasing and tenant improvement of properties throughout the company’s Arizona market. Klein Romero joined Ensemble in 2006 after more than two decades of commercial real estate experience, primarily in retail and high-rise office asset and property management. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire and has earned the Institute of Real Estate Management’s Real Property Administrator designation.
Dean Piles has joined Barton Malow as operations vice president for the company’s western region in the Tempe office. Piles has built more than $3.5 billion in healthcare and research facilities, commercial offices and multi-use complexes. He comes to Barton Malow from his previous roles at Kraus-Anderson and McCarthy Building Co. Piles holds a construction technologies degree from Maricopa Technical College.
Arthur (Art) Perkins has also joined Barton Malow as vice president in charge of the company’s western region in the firm’s Tempe office. For the last seven years, he was Beck Group’s managing director in charge of their Western Division. A graduate engineer and LEED accredited professional, he holds contractor’s licenses in Arizona, Utah and Nevada.
Ann Seibert, CPSM, was recently named vice president of business development for The Renaissance Companies. Seibert will direct overall business development and marketing strategies for the firm. A graduate of Northern Illinois University, Seibert holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing. Seibert served as president of SMPS.
Robert "Bob" Hiller has joined Breckenridge Group a second time as designer to the Department of Defense Studio. Previously, Hiller worked for Breckenridge Group for eight years. He specializes in green historic preservation and rehabilitation projects, including those in the Barrio Historico National Historic District. Hiller is a graduate of the University of Arizona’s School of Architecture and is close to obtaining his registration.
Bryan Rollins also joined Breckenridge’s DOD Studio. Rollins is a recent graduate of University of Arizona’s College of Architecture. He is currently working on obtaining his registration as an architect in the State of Arizona. Most recently, Rollins worked with Gromatzky Dupree and Associates as an architect intern.
United Construction Co. has hired Daniel Westman as a field operations manager. Westman brings more than 30 years of hands-on experience to the company with a strong background in high-density multi-family and commercial construction. Prior to joining United Construction, Westman worked as a general superintendent and construction manager for 13 multi-family projects, where he was responsible for design coordination, permit procurement, buyout and construction.
Small Giants Recruiting has hired Lauren Mulrooney as the recruiting director to oversee candidate placement for marketing and business development positions within the commercial real estate industry. Prior to joining Small Giants, Mulrooney worked with a commercial real estate brokerage firm servicing the office property division, as a marketing coordinator and junior broker. She also brings a background of sales and marketing in the advertising media industry.
Richard Michal, LEED AP, will direct new project development in the greater Tucson community at Adolfson & Peterson Construction.
Michal has over 18 years of professional experience including 11 years in the construction industry. He serves on the boards of the Drachmann Design Build Coalition, the Brady Charitable Endowment Fund and the Southern Arizona Chapter of the USGBC. Michal has a Master’s in Architecture from the University of Arizona, where he is also an adjunct faculty member.
Denise Arredondo, who works at A & P as an associate estimator, has been accepted to serve on the board of directors for Gabriel’s Angels, a local charity aiding abused and at-risk children where she has volunteered for several years. She also chairs A & P’s charitable giving committee for the Southwest region, and is currently pursuing a degree in nonprofit leadership and management from ASU.
Longtime New Mexico contractor and AGC Past President Bill Stuckman passed away on May 25 at the age of 83.
Born in Brighton, CO, Stuckman moved to New Mexico at age 10. He graduated from Santa Fe High School and then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943-45. Upon returning home, he went to work for Miller & Smith. In 1952, he formed his own construction company, Bill Stuckman Constructiion Inc., which he operated for over 50 years.
His firm’s many projects include Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Holbrook completed in 1969, the renovation of Hodgin Hall at the University of New Mexico and several housing projects around Fort Wingate.
Stuckman was president of the New Mexico Building Branch in 1965 when the AGC Building at 1615 University Blvd. NE was completed. He played a key role in making the new headquarters a reality when he served as Building Committee chairman before becoming president.
He also played a key role in establishing the Construction Advancement Program, which helps further construction education and training.
He is survived by Eva, his wife of 62 years, three daughters and five grandchildren.
