Arizona Architect Inducted Into History Hall of Fame
Douglas B. Sydnor was recently inducted into the Scottsdale History Hall of Fame.
Over the past 13 years the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce Past Presidents have selected 93 past and present Scottsdale personalities and organizations to induct into the Scottsdale History Hall of Fame since creating this Scottsdale signature event in 1994. Inductees have contributed immeasurably to the rich heritage of Scottsdale, dating back to its modern-day founding in 1888 by Army Chaplain Winfield Scott. Douglas Sydnor was one of four individuals to be honored. Sydnor is a second generation local architect and has designed numerous landmark buildings throughout Scottsdale, many garnering regional and national awards publicity. They have included the Loloma Transportation Center, Scottsdale artists School Renovation, Scottsdale Community College Applied Sciences Classroom Building, Yen-Li Chen Ballet School, a series of Prestige Cleaners stores and numerous health care projects.
Throughout his 30-year career, he has served as chairman of seven boards such as Scottsdale Leadership, Scottsdale Historic Preservation Commission and the American Institute of Architects - Arizona and Central Arizona Chapter. He has played a key role in over 230 boards, commissions, task forces and committees, particularly those focused on enhancing downtown Scottsdale and developing an awareness of architecture and the arts. Douglas Sydnor is only the third architect to be so honored after Frank Lloyd Wright and Bennie Gonzalez, FAIA.
Trillium Residential LLC announced the promotion of Lesa LaRocca to president of Trillium Residential, from her previous position as vice president of property management. LaRocca has more than 20 years of property management experience in the multi-family industry and has been with the company since its inception in 2002.
Working in the multi-family industry from the ground-up as a leasing agent at 18-years-old to the current president of a leading residential real estate developer and property manager, LaRocca continues to significantly contribute to the industry's evolution in the Phoenix metropolitan region. LaRocca currently oversees nearly 2,000 units and manages over 70 people that include staff ranging from on-site leasing specialists and maintenance technicians to concierge staff, marketing and training directors; and she is the designated broker representing Trillium to ensure the integrity of all real estate transactions.
CLC Associates announced that Ron Maddox has joined the firm as vice president, manager of the Phoenix office. With more than 25 years of experience, Maddox has focused on the strategic growth and operation of numerous organizations within the architecture, construction and engineering industries. His project portfolio includes overseeing the design and administration of over 250 projects encompassing a total of 250 million sq ft. Maddox's work has been multi-faceted with experience in retail, office and industrial developments, tenant improvements, renovation and public works.
As vice president and manager of the Phoenix office, Maddox focuses on day-to-day operations, with special attention to developing the staff, assisting in the management of all projects and meeting the needs of the clientele in the region.
Stacie Thornton, PHR, has been selected as the new human resources manager for the Phoenix office of SmithGroup. Previously, Thornton served as the human resources representative for the Detroit office of SmithGroup, having worked at the Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Mich. for five years prior. As the human hesources manager for SmithGroup in Phoenix, Thornton will function as a human resources generalist, overseeing recruitment, employee relations and benefits administration. Thornton has nearly 10 years of experience in the field of human resources and is a member of the Society of Human Resources Management.
TDIndustries has promoted Ed White, Scott Roan and Mike Wilson to support its growth in the Phoenix market. White has been promoted to senior vice president. Roan has been promoted to vice president of construction management, and Wilson has been promoted to production manager. White joined TDIndustries in 2001 and led the company's pre-construction activities on the University of Phoenix Stadium. He is responsible for all construction and service operations in Arizona, overseeing a team of 100 employees.
Roan relocated to the Phoenix office in 2005 to lead the company's project management and pre-construction team. He joined TDIndustries in 2003 as construction manager and oversaw the mechanical construction of a fast-track, mega data center in Texas prior to his relocation. Roan is a graduate of the University of North Texas and has more than 21years in the construction and service industry.
A 26-year veteran of TDIndustries, Wilson began his career as a plumber's helper, moved up to foreman and later became superintendent over several key projects. Prior to relocating to Phoenix, Wilson managed TDIndustries' manufacturing operation in Dallas.
McCarthy Southwest Region announced that Matt Adcock has been hired as a business development manager for Arizona, supporting the company's outreach efforts in the southwest. In this position Adcock is responsible for supporting new business development and marketing in the public, education, healthcare and commercial sectors. He is a graduate of Florida State with a degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in business administration.
The Phoenix office of Leo A Daly appointed Andrea K. Norman as director of business development. In her new role, she will be responsible for maintaining and establishing client relationships within the Phoenix metropolitan area and portions of the Southwest U.S.
Norman has more than 20 years of experience in the fields of marketing and sales, having worked for a variety of industry-leading companies, including IBM, PriceWaterhouse Coopers and IKON Office Solutions. Most recently, Norman worked at the Phoenix office of RSP Architects, where she was the director of marketing and business development. She was named one of The Phoenix Business Journal's most promising young business leaders of 2004.
Norman received a bachelor of arts in business and management from the University of Maryland. She also holds a master of business administration degree from the University of Southern California.
The PENTA Building Group announced the appointment of Carrie Stowers as environmental manager. In her new role she will be responsible for taking a positive and proactive approach toward environmental consideration in construction and will interface closely with operations, safety and preconstruction. She will also be responsible for coordinating the company's LEED initiative and for furthering PENTA's expertise in green building. Stowers received her bachelor's degree in biology, with an emphasis on chemistry.
The PENTA Building Group also announced the appointment of Shelly Ratto as preconstruction assistant. In her new role she will be responsible for assisting the preconstruction team with day to day activities. Ratto received her bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.
W. E. O'Neil Construction Co. of Arizona recently hired Allison Suriano, AIA as director of preconstruction services. Suriano has nearly 20 years of experience in the construction industry as an architect, construction project manager and as an owner's representative. Prior to joining W. E. O'Neil, Suriano worked for seven years as project manager for a national program, project and construction management firm serving as an owner's representative for local and rural school districts.
Brooks Engineers & Surveyors Inc. has announced that Joseph (Jack) Pence, P.E., has joined their team as land development project manager. In this role Pence will manage residential and commercial land development projects. Pence offers over 29 years of civil engineering experience. His technical expertise involves master planning and land development engineering for residential developments, including planning coordination, re-zoning, infrastructure and floodplain analysis. Jack holds a bachelors of science in civil engineering from the University of Kentucky.
The Phoenix office of Leo A Daly has announced the appointment of Richard McGee, AIA, as managing principal. In this capacity, he will be responsible for overseeing business and client services in the Phoenix office. McGee received a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Oklahoma. He is a registered architect in the states of Arizona, California, and Oklahoma, and is a corporate member of the American Institute of Architects.
McGee has more than thirty years of experience in all areas of the profession of architecture, including management, operations, business development, project management and human resources. He also has planning, design and production experience for commercial, institutional, residential and other projects.
Nirmal Mangal, vice president and principal, formerly managing principal of Leo A Daly's Phoenix office is assuming new responsibilities leading the firm's international practice in Asia. He will remain based in the firm's Phoenix office and will be associated with several key projects in the Phoenix area during a period of transition.
