Appoints New COO
Austin Industrial named Barry
Babyak as company president. He is replacing Henry
Kelly who retired at the end of December after 37 years with
the company. Kelly served as president of Austin Industrial
during the last 18 years of his career. Babyak has been with
Austin Industrial for 25 years and has extensive expertise
in engineering, maintenance and construction for the petrochemical
and refining industries. As senior account executive, he provided
hands-on leadership working closely with Austin's site managers.
Babyak earned a civil engineering degree from Louisiana Tech
University.
DFD CornoyerHedrick has appointed Geoff
Appleyard to the position of chief operating officer.
He brings more than two decades of experience in corporate
financial management and planning. Prior to joining DFD, Appleyard
spent 18 years with SunCor Development Company, initially
as vice president of finance and later as chief financial
officer. Most recently, Appleyard was chief financial officer
of Brown Family Communities. Appleyard offers the firm expertise
in financial and management reporting, securing corporate
and project financing, overseeing operations, and acquisitions
and dispositions of projects. Appleyard holds a bachelor's
degree in accounting from Kent State University.
Scottsdale, based Shea Commercial's development operation
will now be known as SAXA to reflect its expanded focus
on diversified development offerings, including mixed use,
industrial/flex, commercial subdivisions, investment properties,
and mid-rise residential projects. SAXA will continue developing
office condos throughout the country and currently is developing
over 3 million feet in seven states. SAXA will operate under
the continued leadership of founder and CEO Jim
Riggs. Since its debut in 1994, the company has
grown from a small office condo developer to a national mixed-used
developer with over 35 active projects across nine states.
Re-branding the company as SAXA will allow the company to
further emphasize its strategic partnerships and developments
within the commercial and residential arenas, as well as capitalize
on its breadth of resources, depth of expertise, proven track
record and respected management team. The change comes on
the heels of the company's brokerage division becoming an
affiliate under, and re-branded as, Prudential CRES Commercial
Real Estate to form a western regional brokerage office for
Arizona and Nevada, with plans for expansion into Southern
California.
Okland Construction has hired Will
Carpenter. Carpenter brings six years experience
in the construction industry. Most recently at W.E. O'Neil
Construction he was assigned to the multi-million dollar Stetson
Waterfront project in Scottsdale. Carpenter earned his bachelor
of science in construction management and project engineering
from the Del Webb School of Construction at Arizona State
University. He has made some great contacts in the industry
and is intent on maintaining his relationships.
Brignall Construction Company, Inc. has promoted Scott
Hufford to vice president, director of operations
and hired Carolann Scanlon
as director of business development.
Hufford has been with Brignall for six years as a project
manager. In his new role, he will continue hands-on involvement
on projects as well as oversee preconstruction and project
management for the firm. Hufford has a bachelor of science
in construction from Arizona State University and is LEED
accredited.
Carolann Scanlon has 10
years experience providing marketing and business development
services for the building and design industry. In her new
role with Brignall, she will be managing the firms' business
development efforts as well as all marketing activities. She
is very involved in professional and civic organizations including
the SMPS, the Alliance for Construction Excellence, Pinal
Partnership and the Arizona Association for School Business
Officials.
The Leo A Daly Phoenix office has seven recent new
hires and promotions. David D. Stone,
IIDA, LEED AP has joined the firm as a senior interior
designer. Mike Ganson
has joined the firm as a construction administrator. Kurt
F. James has joined the firm as an architectural
intern. Reggie Blonstein
has joined the firm as the director of business development.
Kay Melia has joined
the firm as the marketing coordinator in the business development
group. Colleen M. Blaylock
has joined the firm as an assistant marketing coordinator
in the business development group. Lastly, Virginia
E. Marquardt, AIA, CDT was promoted to registered
architect.
Jason Light has joined
the western region office from Barton Malow's corporate
headquarters in Southfield, Michigan. Light has more than
six years experience in the construction industry performing
construction management and general contracting services in
the K-12 education, commercial and special event facility
markets. As project engineer, Light works closely with project
managers and superintendents coordinating communication between
management and field operations for the architectural and
structural components of a project. He is a certified Journeyman
Hard Tile Setter and is pursuing a bachelor of science in
construction management.
SH Architecture has appointed Mark
T. McGinty as principal. McGinty has been with
SH Architecture since 1999 and currently directs the K-12
client studio. A 25-year veteran in the industry, McGinty
has completed numerous public sector, private sector, private
developer and institutional projects. McGinty is president
of Boulder City Sunrise Rotary, board member of the Henderson
Redevelopment Agency, member of the advisory board for the
Boys and Girls Club of Henderson and many other organizations.
SH Architecture has also hired Carol
Herrington as human resource director. Herrington
has been a practicing human resource generalist for 20 years.
For the past 15 years, she has served as the senior human
resources professional in the positions she's held at firms
that specialize in heavy equipment sales and service, utility
construction, architectural and engineering services. Herrington's
goals at SH Architecture are to enhance employee development
through the application of human resource techniques and recruit
employees who fit the progressive culture at SH Architecture.
She is a long-time member of the Society of Human Resource
Management and an active member of the Southern Nevada Human
Resource Association.
Paul Auzenne has been
promoted to the position of project manager at Las Vegas-based
Crisci Builders. In his new position, Auzenne is responsible
for estimating, bidding and managing multiple construction
projects. Auzenne brings more than 22 years of construction
experience to Crisci Builders. Prior to his promotion, he
served as a superintendent for the firm, where his responsibilities
included scheduling subcontractors, overseeing onsite activities
during the course of construction and handling quality control
of the project. Previously, Auzenne served as a superintendent
for two local firms in Las Vegas, where he supervised personnel
in the construction of single-family homes. He also served
as a municipal inspector, where he examined commercial and
residential projects during all stages of construction to
ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Auzenne
is currently a certified member of the International Conference
of Building Officials and the International Code Council.
Caruso Turley Scott structural engineering firm has
promoted four engineers. Troy Turley,
project manager, joined the firm in 1997 and has 9
years of experience. Toni Miller,
senior structural engineer joined the firm in 1993 and has
14 years of experience. Craig Porter,
senior structural engineer joined the firm in 1994 and has
12 years of experience. Brady Notbohm,
senior structural engineer joined the firm in 2000 and brings
8 years of experience. Each engineer brings distinct and complimentary
skills that support the expanding needs of the growing structural
engineering firm. These promotions allow Caruso Turley Scott
to continue to grow and diversify its portfolio of projects
and clients throughout the United States, while maintaining
its reputable high level of engineering quality.
Linthicum has promoted Art
Jordan and Tim Vogel to vice presidents. Jordan,
previously director of commercial construction for Linthicum,
has been named vice president of project development and is
a 24-year veteran of the construction industry. In his new
role, he will oversee new project development, marketing and
public relations, the preconstruction phase of the commercial
projects portfolio and maintaining the owner relationship
through project completion. He is a registered professional
architect in the state of Arizona and a LEED-accredited professional.
Jordan is a board director for the Valley Forward Association,
serves on the redevelopment committee for the City of Mesa
and is a member of the Advisory Task Force for Mesa Community
College.
Tim Vogel, previously director of golf amenity construction
at Linthicum, has been appointed vice president of operations
and will oversee field operations, procurement, contract negotiations
and cost control for all commercial, golf amenity and custom
home projects. Vogel is a 31-year veteran of the general contracting
industry.
