Work Starts on Student Union

The PENTA Building Group recently broke ground on the new Donald C. Moyer Student Union on the University of Nevada Las Vegas campus.
Construction is scheduled to begin in June on the 143,000-sq.-ft. student union. The project includes meeting rooms, offices and food service stations.

The project team includes: Bob Lawson as general superintendent; Joel Wallis as project manager; Matt Joens as assistant superintendent/field engineer; Mark Richardson as project engineer; and Marta Busic as contract administrator. The budget amount for the project is $32 million.
Tate Snyder Kimsey Architects is designing the project.


$1B Project Planned on the Strip

Diversified Real Estate Group recently announced a five-phase, $1 billion, 2,400-unit mixed use community on the southwest corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Pyle Road.

The 50-acre urban village features five neighborhoods comprised of brownstones, high rise, live-work units, flats and lofts. One, two and three bedroom homes will range in size from 900 sq. ft. for 3,000 sq. ft.

Plans call for a summer construction start with the first units coming online in Winter 2006.

 


Resort Construction Tops Off

Perini Building Company recently topped-off the new $800-million, 198-ft.-tall Red Rock Resort-Spa-Casino, situated on 70 acres at the southeast corner of Charleston Boulevard and Interstate-215 in Summerlin.

The project, scheduled to open in early 2006, is employing over 800 skilled trades. The new Station Casinos property calls for a 23-story, 850-room hotel tower with 94,000-sq.-ft. of meeting and convention space, plus a 87,000-sq.-ft. casino, a 35,000-sq.-ft. spa, nine restaurants, a nightclub, six bars, a 16-screen movie theater and a three-acre pool complex.

Once completed, the Red Rock Resort-Spa-Casino will employ approximately 2,000 people.



Firm to Act as Owner's Rep

Kitchell CEM has been selected as owner's representative for a new detention facility by the Nye County, Nevada Board of Commissioners. The facility will be located in Pahrump.

The project is expected to start construction in 2006 and will consist of a combined 250-bed adult detention facility and 50-bed youth detention facility.

Kitchell's services will include assistance in master planning, estimating, architect selection, value engineering, design review, scheduling, construction management and building commissioning.


Animal Hospital Planned

SR Construction has been awarded the contract for the design of Cheyenne West Animal Hospital, located on Buffalo Drive and Gowan Road, in Las Vegas. Total project costs for the 9,150-sq.-ft. building are estimated at $1.5 million. SR Construction will break ground on the project in August 2005 and is scheduled for completion in December. SR Construction's Terry DeMauro will serve as project manager and Purvis Architects is the designer.


New Condo Conversion Underway

CORE Construction recently announced the firm has been contracted by TR Village Green, LLC to complete the "condo-conversion" of the company's Village Green Apartments at the Las Vegas Country Club

The complex, at 600 Oakmount Drive in Las Vegas, consists of 551 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments. The project will be completed in 10 phases. Phase I consists of the property's four model units and 64 condominium units. The balance of the project's phases will break off the rest of the units, with exterior paint and landscape improvements occurring in conjunction with remaining phases.

Construction of the $17.4 million project began in December 2004 and is scheduled for completion in 2007, with plans for expediting construction based upon sales.

CORE Construction also announced the firm has been contracted by local
businessman Jose Meyers to construct Meyers Automotive Center, an automotive retail strip center on Simmons Street and Ann Road in North Las Vegas.

The project will consist of 30,000-sq.-ft. in three separate masonry buildings. Meyers Automotive will occupy 3,900-sq.-ft., with the remaining space available for lease.

Construction of the $2.5 million project commenced in March 2005 and is scheduled for completion in August. Las Vegas-based Carpenter Sellers Associates is the architect of record. Danny Mulcahy of Insight Realty is overseeing leasing of the center.


Rec Center Work Underway

Jaynes Corp. recently started work on the Mirabelli Community Recreation Center for the city of Las Vegas.

The new 31,000-sq.-ft. complex includes a state-of-the-art gymnasium, fitness area and community faciliy.

Plans call for a September completion on the $6.3 million project.


Hospital Work Completed

Kitchell Contractors recently completed construction of the fifth-floor addition and new parking garage at the MountainView Hospital in Las Vegas for HCA.

The project consisted of 25,616 sq. ft. of new construction on the roof of the existing hospital and accommodates 36 additional patient beds, bringing the hospital bed total to 235. The rehabilitation services department was also relocated from inside the hospital to the adjacent medical office building, allowing the hospital to expand other services into the 5,000-sq.-ft. area. The new 205,252-sq.-ft. parking garage provides 592 parking spaces. The architect is Richard L. Miller of Nashville.

Kitchell completed the original 199,000-sq.-ft. hospital, which opened in February 1996, and a significant addition in 1999.
