Kansas Firm to Build Cement Plant in Moapa

Ash Grove Cement Co. recently announced plans for build a $250 million, 1.5-million-ton a year portland cement plant on the Moapa Reservation north of Las Vegas.

Construction on the plant is expected to begin in 2006 and could be completed as early as 2007. An engineer and general contractor have not been chosen.


Penta Starts Casino Work

The Penta Building Group recently started on the Treasure Island north entrance remodel at the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino.

The project includes interior demolition, new structural steel and a new exterior facade. YWS Architects designed the project. Work is scheduled for a December completion.

New Office on Tap at Tech Center II

Thomas & Mack Development Group recently announced the construction of two new office buildings in the Las Vegas Tech Center II.

A 35,800-sq.-ft. building is planned for a Fire Mesa Street location, with a second project recenlty breaking ground. Martin Harris Construction is the general contractor and Howard F. Thompson Architect designed the project.


Airport Offices Under Construction

Work on the Airport Corporate Center recently started, with Kalb Construction building a two-story, 48,000-sq.-ft. class "A" office project.

Designed by Howard F. Thompson and leased by Colliers International, the $7.5 million project is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2005.


Firm to Build New Headquarters

TWC Construction recently announced that it has been awarded the $3.5 million contract to build the new headquarters for Dolisos America, Inc., the U. S. division of Dolisos Laboratoires.

Dolisos Laboratoires is a subsidiary of the Pierre Fabre Group, a major French pharmaceutical conglomerate specialized in plant-based medicines. The new two-story, approximately 30,000 square foot office/operations facility will be located in the Whitney Mesa Business Park in Henderson, Nevada.

When completed in the second quarter 2005, the building will house an expanded production facility and office space for 55 skilled employee positions.

After completing work on five buildings at Arville Beltway Industrial Park, TWC Construction, Inc. has started construction on the final three buildings of the project.
Located on 5.1 acres at the intersection of Interstate-215 and Arville Road, the industrial park consists of a total of eight two-story concrete tilt wall office/warehouse buildings. Totaling approximately 100,000 sq. ft., the entire project is valued at more than $4.2 million. The final phase of building construction is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter, 2004. The owner is Jan Bernard Realty.

The firm also recently started the renovation of the 50-year-old Holsum Lofts building.
The conversion of the former bakery to mixed-use residential, retail, restaurant and art gallery/studio spaces represents another aspect of the on-going renaissance of downtown Las Vegas. The renovated building will preserve the interesting elements of the older existing structure, including exposed heavy timber ceilings and historic signage, within an exciting, contemporary design. The project is valued at $3.5 million.


School District Awards Contract

The Clark County School District recently awarded a contract to Roche Constructors Inc. to build the new Liliam Lujan Hickey Elementary School in Las Vegas.

The 62,500-sq.-ft. project is valued at $13.9 million and is scheduled for completion in June. Domingo Cambeiro Corp. Architects designed the project.

The firm also has contracts for four elementary schools, five middle schools and one high school. All are scheduled for completion in 2005.
