Architect to Design New UNLV Rec Center

DMJM Design in association with Hastings+Chivetta and Indigo Architecture, was recently selected to design the new $33.6 million Student Recreation Center for University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). The new stand-alone facility located on the south portion of the campus, will be a multi-story building totaling 170,000 sq. ft.

The student recreation center will include an entry area-food service, basketball and volleyball courts, aerobic rooms, a weight and cardio room with modern state-of-the-art equipment, an indoor track, climbing wall, wellness area, administrative office suites, outdoor leisure pool, lap pool, racquetball/squash courts and student and faculty/staff locker rooms.


Interior Firm Wins Projects

Colours Inc., a Nevada-based interior design firm, has been hired in conjunction with the architectural firm Garapich & Associates for the interior design of three medical office buildings being developed by Las Vegas-based Frey Development Co.

The firm will design interior finishes for the Rainbow Diablo Medical Center in Las Vegas; Seven Hills II on Horizon Ridge Parkway; Jeffreys Street and Sunset/Post Medical Center at Sunset Road and Post Road, both in Henderson. The medical buildings, which consist of approximately 27,000-sq.-ft. each, will be designed with contemporary tones. Construction recently began and completion is scheduled for first quarter 2005.


Developer Starts Large Scale Project

EJM Development Co. recently announced its largest master-planned business park to date, The Arroyo. Located in the burgeoning southwest valley, The Arroyo consists of more than 450 acres of premier real estate. Upon completion The Arroyo is projected to contain more than 4.5 million sq. ft of industrial, office and retail space.

Construction began on 310,000 sq. ft of industrial space in three buildings within Arroyo North in April. Construction is set to be complete in the fourth quarter, coinciding with the completion of the 215 Beltway.

Currently under design is the first phase of Arroyo South which will be a 1,000,000-sq.-ft. class "A" office development, along with a two building second phase of Arroyo North.

Future phases include an 800,000-sq.-ft. retail center, additional one- and two-story office buildings and sites for R & D or Manufacturing facilities.


Vegas Firm Building Office

The Korte Company is currently underway on the Astoria Homes Office Building project, which is being constructed in the master-planned community of Summerlin.
The 52,820-sq.-ft. structure features concrete tilt-up construction, finished with painted concrete and sandstone veneers. The Korte Company will also complete the design-build tenant finish for Astoria Homes' new headquarters, which will occupy the entire second floor.


PB Wins Transportation Jobs

The Regional Transportation Authority of Washoe County has awarded a contract to Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) to design new transit centers for the cities of Reno and Sparks.

The project is intended to improve transit operations while contributing to the vitality of the downtown in both cities. The two transit centers, which will replace existing centers in each city, serve as the main transfer facilities in the Citifare system, Washoe County's bus system.

In Reno, the center will comprise up to 25 bays plus passenger amenities and up to 40,000 sq. ft. of joint development space. In Sparks, the facility will include up to 16 bays in addition to incorporation of historical and park facilities on the site as well as up to 10,000 sq. ft. of joint development opportunities.

As prime consultant on the project, PB is responsible for overall project planning as well as architectural and engineering design.
