Weitz to Build Edelweiss Spa and Lodge
The Rocky Mountain Business Unit of The Weitz Company will
build the 72,882-sq.-ft. Edelweiss Lodge & Spa at the
base of Taos Ski Valley.
Edelweiss Lodge & Spa is a $12.5 million 32-unit multifamily
residential lodge with underground parking. In addition to
providing ski-in and ski-out access, the resort also includes
a ski shop, bistro, lounge, spa, lobby, lunch counter and
a covered hot tub deck.
The Edelweiss project is one of three on which the Rocky Mountain
Business Unit is currently working in other states. The others
are Capstone Village in Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Wells Fargo Home
Mortgage in Springfield, Ill.
Design-Build Team Wins LEED Certification
The Baca / Dlo' Ay Azhi Consolidated Replacement School near
Prewitt, N.M. recently achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design (LEED) Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
This is the first LEED certified project in the state of New
Mexico. The minimum 26 points were obtained. A case study
of the project will be posted on the U.S. Green Building Council
web site and added to the U.S. Department of Energy's High
Performance Buildings Database.
The new, $12.8 million, 80,000-sq.-ft. school was designed
under a design/build construction approach with Bradbury Stamm
Construction as general contractor and Dyron Murphy Architects,
along with NCA Architects as architects. The client for the
project was the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Bureau
of Indian Affairs. The school was completed in August of 2003.
