Weitz to Build Edelweiss Spa and Lodge

The Rocky Mountain Business Unit of The Weitz Company will build the 72,882-sq.-ft. Edelweiss Lodge & Spa at the base of Taos Ski Valley.

Edelweiss Lodge & Spa is a $12.5 million 32-unit multifamily residential lodge with underground parking. In addition to providing ski-in and ski-out access, the resort also includes a ski shop, bistro, lounge, spa, lobby, lunch counter and a covered hot tub deck.

The Edelweiss project is one of three on which the Rocky Mountain Business Unit is currently working in other states. The others are Capstone Village in Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage in Springfield, Ill.

Design-Build Team Wins LEED Certification

The Baca / Dlo' Ay Azhi Consolidated Replacement School near Prewitt, N.M. recently achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. This is the first LEED certified project in the state of New Mexico. The minimum 26 points were obtained. A case study of the project will be posted on the U.S. Green Building Council web site and added to the U.S. Department of Energy's High Performance Buildings Database.

The new, $12.8 million, 80,000-sq.-ft. school was designed under a design/build construction approach with Bradbury Stamm Construction as general contractor and Dyron Murphy Architects, along with NCA Architects as architects. The client for the project was the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The school was completed in August of 2003.
