Contractor Starts 2nd Phase for Bank One

Summit Builders recently commenced construction on the second phase of the Bank One Sky Harbor Operations Center at 1820 E. Sky Harbor Circle South in central Phoenix.

Phase ll construction consists of a new 297,338-sq.-ft., three-story precast concrete parking structure to provide additional parking for 1,000 cars.

Summit Builders' scope for phase II also includes tenant improvements for the second floor of the recently opened 400,000-sq.-ft. operations center. The second floor will be utilized for Bank One's line-of-business call center. The improvements include 183,000 sq. ft. of access flooring with under floor cabling to service 1,800 work stations.

Construction completion for phase II is anticipated for second quarter 2005. DMJM Design of Phoenix serves as project architect for both phases.


Firms Win Program Management Work

The Western regional office of Hunt Construction Group, along with Jacobs Engineering, were recently awarded the program management services contract for the Maricopa County Capital Improvement Program.
The team will manage programs for nearly $200 million in construction work, including $87 million for the sheriff, downtown development and public health.


Scottsdale Firm Wins Olympic Work

Scottsdale-based BDA Engineers was recently selected as the structural engineering consultant on the design team for the Whistler Nordic Center, the future home of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, B.C.

The project includes three stadiums, ski jumps, trails and biathlon facilities.


Tempe Firm to Build Dorms

ChuskaSahara recently announced the firm won a $5.7 million contract to construct a new dormitory for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Flagstaff.

The two-story residential dorm includes a separate boys and girls dorm for a total of 47,000 sq. ft. ASCG is designing the project for the 170 children who attend local schools.

Plans call for a September 2005 completion.


Company Lands 5 New Projects

LGE Design Build recently announced the signing of five new projects totaling more than 173,000 sq. ft. with a value of $9.8 million.

Four projects are in Gilbert: a 61,000-sq. -ft. Gilbert Commons warehouse; United Ornamental, a 41,000-sq.-ft. warehouse; a 26,000-sq.-ft. McQueen Center showroom and the shops at Fiesta Ranch, a 22,600-sq.-ft. retail center. The fifth project, the 21,000-sq.-ft. Happy Valley Industrial, is in Phoenix.


Granite Wins Road Work in Southern Arizona

Granite Construction's Tucson office recently picked up two new road projects.
In Sahuarita, Granite won a $5.4 million contract to widen and improve a 2-mi. stretch of La Canada Drive.
In Benson, Granite is repairing the San Pedro Bridge, a $1.1 million project that will be complete in January.


New Museum in the Works

Moran Architects recently announced the firm won the Cave Creek Museum Expansion project design.

The Cave Creek museum will exhibit artifacts and works of art reflecting the pioneer, mining and ranching history of the town of Cave Creek. It will also house artifacts from the Hohokam, Apache and Navajo peoples. The museum renovation will be 3,000 sq. ft. and the addition adds 3,000 sq. ft. The $500,000 project is aiming for a 2006 completion.


Work Starts on Mixed Use Development

CMX, a Phoenix-based engineering firm, is assisting Valley developer Carefree Partners in its efforts to revitalize the Goodyear Airpark and generate new economic development complementing both the city's growth and future expansion of adjacent Phoenix-Goodyear Airport.

Carefree Partners is planning a mixed-use business park for the 300-acre site located immediately south of the airport and Maricopa County Highway 85 and between Litchfield Road and Bullard Avenue.

CMX is examining the site's existing infrastructure to determine if elements can be incorporated into the new park's planning and design. It includes the existing sewer lines and water storage tank, as well as high power electrical, natural gas, fiber optic, and telecommunication lines along the park's north and south frontages.
