Summit Starts Work on Projects
Summit Builders' healthcare division recently won the construction
contract for an addition and remodel to the emergency department
at St. Luke's Medical Center located at 18000 E. Van Buren
in Phoenix for owner Iasis Healthcare of Tennessee.
The hospital project consists of a 12,200-sq.-ft. new emergency
department addition and a 5,798-sq.-ft. reconfiguration of
the existing emergency department into a fast-track emergency
unit. The construction will be completed in two phases that
will commence late Spring 2004 with anticipated completion
in first quarter 2005.
Perkins & Will CRA, of Dallas, Texas serves as project
architect.
Summit Builders also recently broke ground on Happy Valley
Towne Center, an expansive 71-acre retail project valued at
$20 million, located at 2501 West Happy Valley Road in north
Phoenix, for Vestar Development Company of Phoenix. Estimated
project value is $4 million.
Happy Valley Towne Center consists of all site development
for the 71-acre parcel and the first phase of vertical construction
for the retail stores. This first phase encompasses 177,692
sq. ft. of buildings and includes a Pier One Imports, Linens
& Things, Cost Plus World Market, Barnes and Noble, Staples,
Petco, Hi-Health and additional shop space. The project will
have five separate buildings and feature decorative metal
archway entrances and exterior metal awnings.
Construction commenced earlier this month with anticipated
completion early first quarter, 2005. Butler Design Group
of Phoenix serves as project architect.
SRP Receives Permission
for New Transmission Line
The Arizona Power Plant and Transmission Line Siting Committee
recently gave SRP permission to build two, parallel 500 kV
transmission lines.
The $150 million project will bring power from the Palo Verde
hub to customers in southwestern Maricopa County.
An application for a second line is expected to be filed later
this year. Te line would run from Pinal west to the Southeast
Valley.
APS Building Solar Power Plant in Southern
Arizona
APS recently broke ground on Arizona's first commercial solar
plant. SolarGenix Energy of North Carolina.
The solar plant will have a one megawatt generating capacity,
enough to provide energy to 200 average size homes.
The $5.5 million plant is expected to be online in April 2005.
Kitchell Starts Work on New School
Kitchell Contractors recently broke ground on a new, $10
million math and science center at Brophy College Preparatory
in Phoenix.
Orcutt/Winslow Partnership of Phoenix designed the project.
Ryan Companies, SunCor Team Up for Industrial Job
Ryan Companies and Suncor Development Company recently announced
a joint venture project to develop more than 500,000 sq. ft.
of space at 43rd Avenue and Buckeye Road in Phoenix.
The project will feature flex use units and is designed by
Dickenson Architects. The project is scheduled for completion
in October.
Sundt Breaks Ground on U of A Alumni Plaza Project
Sundt Construction recently started work on a 65,000-sq.-ft.
outdoor alumni plaza project at the University of Arizona.
Work on the $3.7 million project includes the installation
of water falls, fountains and hard scape elements. The project
is scheduled for a fall completion.
Opus West Constructing New Headquarters
Phoenix-based design-builder Opus West Construction Corp.
has started work on the new 140,000-sq.-ft. main office and
distribution headquarters of Sigler & Reeves, a wholesale
supplier of air conditioning equipment, parts and supplies.
The new industrial/back office building is located at 9702
W. Tonto St., near 99th Avenue and Buckeye Road in Tolleson,
Ariz., west of Phoenix. Construction will be completed in
October.
Sahara Completes Expansion at Berge Ford in Mesa
Sahara, Inc. recently completed the 31,000-sq.-ft. expansion
to the parts and service departments of Berge Ford in Mesa,
AZ. The project consisted of a 22,000-sq.-ft., two-story parts
building and 19 additional service bays to bring the total
number of service bays to 120, making it the largest service
department in the region.
