AGC, ARPA, There for Kids at Sunshine Acres
For the first time in its 49-year history, Sunshine Acres
Children's Home now has paved access to replace the rutted
dirt and gravel roads thanks to the generosity and hard work
donated by 39 members of the Arizona Chapter Associated General
Contractors (AGC) and the Arizona Rock Products Association
(ARPA).
Originally estimated as a $300,000.00 project, the two local
associations covered the cost of nearly $425,000.00 in emergency
access road improvements required by the City of Mesa by donating
the materials, equipment and manpower for the project.
Without the improvements Sunshine Acres could not move forward
with plans to build a new girls dormitory and were forced
at times to turn children in need away.
The contractor of record for the project is Tom Royden of
Royden Construction Company; the project Manager is Michael
Markham, Jr. of Markham Contracting Company, Inc. The majority
of earthwork and subgrade preparation was provided by crews
from Graef Construction, Inc., who spent more than three weeks
straight on the job. Other project participants from across
the valley include:

Inc.; Brown & Caldwell; Cactus Transport, Inc.; Canyon
