McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. has begun pre-construction services on the new 15,000-sq-ft College of Southern Nevada Fire Station. McCarthy was recently awarded the $5.5-million project by the City of Las Vegas and CSN and will serve as construction manager-at-risk throughout the construction of the project.

Located on the CSN campus at the southwest corner of Torrey Pines Drive and Oakey Boulevard, the new single story facility will serve a dual purpose of providing 4,000 sq ft of classrooms and lecture halls as well as housing a four-bay fire station for the city of Las Vegas.

Designed by JMA, the building features LEED standards that provide energy saving components such as increased day lighting, water efficient landscaping and provisions for the installation of solar panels. Scheduled for completion in the fall of 2010, the new building will be constructed using metal stud framing with an EIFS and stone exterior finish.

St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church Begins Addition

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America contracted JVC Architects to design additions for St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in the northwest part of the Las Vegas Valley. The multiphase project includes a new 5,920-sq-ft multipurpose room, renovations to the existing meeting room facility to incorporate office space and additional meeting rooms, and a new raised choir seating area holding 50-plus members. JVC designed the original 9,000-sq-ft building in 1996.

Grove Inc. is serving as the general contractor for the project. Construction is scheduled to be complete November, and JVC’s Robert Agapay is serving as project manager.
