New buildings at Creech Air Force Base will provide facilities for pilot training and operation of unmanned
aircraft.
The Siegel Group Acquires Another Piece of Downtown
The Siegel Group Nevada Inc. has acquired a .45-acre parcel of land that had been vacant for years, located on Las Vegas Boulevard in Downtown Las Vegas. The developer is presently exploring various redevelopment uses. The land will be connected with Siegel Suites Bonanza, an apartment complex situated directly contiguous to the east, which will extend the complex to Las Vegas Boulevard. Redevelopment possibilities presently being discussed include ground-leasing the location to gas station operators or constructing a new building to lease to national franchises that have shown interest in the project.

Jaynes Corp. was awarded a contract for the design and construction of the Unmanned Aerial Systems Flight Simulator Academics Facility at Creech Air Force Base in Indian Springs. The single-story, 18,000-sq-ft facility will house the flight simulators used in the pilot training for unmanned aircraft. Jaynes teamed with Dekker/Perich/Sabatini to complete the 18-month project.
Also awarded was the contract for the design and construction of the Unmanned Aerial Systems Operations Facility at Creech Air Force Base in Indian Springs. The single-story, 30,000-sq-ft facility will house the operations facilities for the Air Force’s unmanned aircraft mission. Jaynes teamed with design partner Lee & Sakahara Architects to complete the 18-month project. Both projects will be designed and constructed to obtain LEED silver certification when completed in early 2011.
Jaynes completed Southwest Gas Corp.’s new training facility in Henderson. The $10.8 million project included the construction of a 58,000-sq-ft concrete tilt up office/warehouse facility and a 14,000-sq-ft fabrication shop.
Again working with Dekker/Perich/Sabatini, Jaynes completed the 52,000-sq-ft tenant improvement project for Aristocrat Technologies, a slot manufacturer. The design-build interior renovation project included select demolition, upgrading the electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems, and the addition of new offices, employee areas, production areas, public entrances and lab spaces.
Finally, Jaynes completed Deer Springs Town Center in North Las Vegas. The 60-acre retail center was developed by Regency Centers based in Los Angeles. The project included extensive earthwork, site utilities, asphalt paving, site concrete and landscaping. The LEED-certified shopping center is anchored by several national retailers.
New Park and Flood Control Projects Begin in Las Vegas
An $8.7-million flood control improvement project began in June, with work planned to take place on five Las Vegas roadways.
Funding is provided by the Clark County Regional Flood Control District and the city of Las Vegas. Contri Construction Co. is the contractor. The city of Las Vegas Public Works Department is managing the project.
The project will take approximately 12 months to complete and is slated for completion next summer.
The City of Las Vegas also began construction on a new public park on Boulder Avenue in downtown Las Vegas. Work is scheduled to take approximately six months to complete and cost $695,000.
Following completion of the improvements, this block of Boulder Avenue will become a pedestrian right of way to access the new quarter-acre park that will feature walkways, park lighting, landscaping, benches and fencing. When completed, the park will serve as a future sculpture garden for “18b,” the Las Vegas Arts District.

McCarthy Begins New Campus Fire Station
McCarthy Building Cos. began pre-construction on the $5.5 million College of Southern Nevada Fire Station. The 15,000-sq-ft construction manager at risk project is being built for the City of Las Vegas and CSN for completion by fall 2010.
Located on the CSN campus at the southwest corner of Torrey Pines Drive and Oakey Boulevard, the new single-story facility will serve a dual purpose of providing 4,000-sq-ft of classrooms and lecture halls as well as housing a four-bay fire station.
Designed by JMA, the building features LEED standards that provide energy-saving components such as increased day lighting, water-efficient landscaping and provisions for the installation of solar panels. The new building will be constructed using metal stud framing with an EIFS and stone exterior finish.
