New Prototype School Taking Shape in Las Vegas

The World Jewelry Center Is being planned for downtown Las Vegas. The tower and adjacent three-story retail building will provide space for corporate offices, jewelry retail space and condominiums.

 


Sletten and Tate Snyder Kimsey to Construct School

Clark County School District has plans for a new proto-type high school facility placed on a 61-acre site located near Levi Avenue and Torrey Pines Drive in Las Vegas. The project includes site improvement, parking area and athletic playing fields to include a football stadium, running track, concession stands, softball, baseball and soccer fields, eight tennis courts and six basketball courts. The building contains 333,654-sq.-ft. split into two areas.

One area contains two indoor basketball courts, locker rooms and bleacher seating, theater and music areas and administrative offices, the second area is a two story area with a open central mall. This area contains classrooms, lecture halls, 14 laboratories and automotive and construction technology shop areas.

The building is an assembly of cast-in-place concrete foundations and floor slabs, structural steel, masonry exterior walls, single-ply and metal roofing, glass, skylights, steel studs and drywall, ceramic tile, carpeting and hardwood flooring.

Sletten Construction of Nevada is the general contractor on the project with Tate Snyder Kimsey Architects as the designer. Completion for the project is scheduled for June 2008.




Pacific Concepts Breaks Ground on The Village at The Cauldron

Pacific Concepts broke ground on Phase I of The Village at The Cauldron, located at the northwest corner of Russell Road and Interstate 215. An upscale mixed-used commercial development, the three-story plaza will be home to retail shops, restaurants and loft-style offices. Phase I consists of 68,000-sq.-ft. Phase II, set to commence in 2007, consists of 100,000-sq.-ft.

Several companies that have signed leases at The Village at The Cauldron include a dance studio, salons, a wine shop and a public relations firm.

Ethos3 is the architect of record. Brooks Construction is the general contractor for the project. Construction financing is provided by Silver State Bank and was brokered through Builder's Capital. Phase I is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2007.



Harrah's to Acquire Barbary Coast, Nears Completion of Land Assemblage

A subsidiary of Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement with a subsidiary of Boyd Gaming Corp. to exchange certain real estate Harrah's controls near Boyd's Stardust site on the Las Vegas Strip for Boyd's Barbary Coast property, located at the northeast corner of Flamingo Road and Las Vegas Boulevard. With this acquisition, Harrah's will have substantially completed its land assemblage goals for Las Vegas.

Harrah's now holds or has agreed to acquire a total of nearly 350 acres in Las Vegas encompassing the area between Paris Las Vegas to the south, Harrah's Las Vegas to the north, Koval Avenue to the east and the Rio to the west.

"This large site is intended to give us many years of development potential and the flexibility to grow our future earnings without undue interruption of our current earnings stream," said Charles L. Atwood, vice chairman of the board for Harrah's. "The fact that our total site will have a cost of approximately $13 million per acre on average is strong evidence of our intention to develop this opportunity with a keen eye toward excellent returns on investment."




Nigro Construction Announces New Multi-million Dollar Project

Nigro Construction has commenced work on Westgate Retail Center, located at Warm Springs Road and Gillespie Street. Westgate Resorts Ltd. is the developer, with Nigro Construction serving as the design build contractor for the $5.4 million project.

The 2.25-acre retail site will include Westgate Market, a 3,837-sq.-ft. convenience store and gas station owned by Westgate and operated by Ross Management. The building totals 18,548-sq.-ft., with additional tenant space currently available. The project is scheduled for completion in February.
