Ground was broken for a contemporary 9,870-sq-ft community center for Mariposa, an environmentally-sensitive master-planned development by High Desert Investment Corp.
Local architects Dekker/Perich/Sabatini designed the center, which will be constructed by Enterprise Builders. The project is expected to be completed in early 2009.
Situated at the Mariposa East Commons town center, the new community center will be built directly across the street from the community's first office complex, which opened last summer and was also designed by Dekker/Perich/Sabatini. The second floor of the East Commons office building is the Mariposa Information and Sales Center as well as High Desert’s corporate office.
The community center will feature the same design principals as the commercial center, emphasizing a clean, contemporary facade and situated to take full advantage of its natural surroundings with abundant, large windows offering views of all of the mountain chains visible from Mariposa as well as the beautiful natural scenery.
To compliment the open feel, several outside decks will allow residents to enjoy the outdoors as well. The community center will include an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness area with aerobic equipment and weight machines, space suitable for yoga and Pilates classes or meetings, fully-equipped locker rooms, a massage room, administrative office space and a café.
Construction is ongoing on Phase I of Mariposa East, which includes single-family homes, small parks and 10 miles of trails ideal for walking, jogging and cycling. More than half of Mariposa will be natural open space, including the 2,200-acre Mariposa Preserve. In addition, Mariposa will eventually offer employment centers, shops, schools and other amenities.
