Newly-Formed Firm to Build Roswell-Area Ethanol Plant
Seattle-based E85 Inc. plans to build a state-of-the-art
100 million gal-per-year ethanol plant in Chaves County.
The Roswell area facility is expected to begin construction
this Spring with the plant running in mid-2008. The total
capital investment is roughly $150 million, pending successful
completion of due diligence.
Once the plant opens, E85 Inc. will be a leading supplier
of renewable motor fuels in New Mexico and adjoining states.
The plant will use corn fuel stock, with the bulk of the corn
coming from the Midwest.
The company has secured necessary water for the plant through
land water rights. E85 is currently working with the Environment
Department on necessary permits, including air and water discharge
permits.
E85 Inc. is a newly formed company, with plans to build 10
ethanol plants in the United States. The company's mission
is to become a major producer and distributor of renewable
ethanol motor fuels. E85 Inc. is sponsored by Sterling Infotech
Group, a diversified global business conglomerate founded
in 1988 by entrepreneur C. Sivasankaran.
This plan was developed in coordination with the New Mexico
Partnership, the Chaves County Development Foundation, the
New Mexico Economic Development Department, the New Mexico
Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department as well
as other local officials.
Villagra Building Gets the Gold
The recently completed Paul Bardacke Attorney General Complex,
which serves as the office of the New Mexico State Attorney
General, has achieved LEED Gold certification from the USGBC.
The complex consists of the newly renovated historic Villagra
building, originally constructed in 1934, and an attached
four-story office addition. This certification for Commercial
Interiors recognizes the sustainable design and construction
of the facility.
Construction was completed by Cameron Construction in March
2006. Some of the environmental benefits of the Villagra Building
include energy savings of 31 percent and water savings of
71 percent. 100 percent wind power was purchased to offset
carbon emissions from electricity use. Construction waste
was recycled by 82 percent or diverted from the landfill.
