National SMACNA Head Hails from NM

Keith E. Wilson, CEO of Miller Bonded, Inc. of Albuquerque is now the national president of the 2000-member Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association (SMACNA). His term will run a full year.

As elected head of the association which traditionally defines industry practices and sets standards for the heating, ventilating, air conditioning and sheet metal contracting professions, Wilson plans to spend approximately 140 days in 2006 meeting with local SMACNA chapters and contractors, participating in joint meetings with the Sheet Metal Workers International Association (SMWIA) and attending various functions and events of other construction industry associations.

Wilson points out that the apprenticeship training curriculum developed jointly by SMACNA and SMWIA is commonly used by local apprenticeship programs. Recently, the International Training Institute, established jointly by the parties, has developed an accreditation program which, like the high performance manual for contractors, sets a standard for sheet metal apprenticeship programs around the country.

Wilson started in the sheet metal business 34 years ago with Miller Metal Co. The company merged in 1995 with Ken Otteni of Bonded Plumbing and Heating, which was formed in 1932, to form Miller Bonded Inc.

The award is based on the number of work-related reportable injuries or illnesses over the course of the entire project. The project was nearly 18 months long and had no reportable injuries or illnesses.

"Safety is the most important thing we do at RMCI," stated L.D. Alexander, corporate safety director. "Safety is a paramount core-value for the company. Implementation begins with senior management and is a mandatory performance objective of all personnel."
