Industry Stays Healthy on Steady Diet of New Projects

With nearly $1 billion in construction annually, the healthcare facility sector has remained one of the most consistent markets in the Southwest for the construction industry.

Construction of hospitals, clinics, research institutes and long-term care facilities have been a mainstay for the Southwest’s construction industry for years.

According to McGraw-Hill Construction, healthcare construction is on the up-swing.

In 2006, construction starts for healthcare-related facilities totaled $800 million. While the 2007 numbers aren’t final, McGraw-Hill forecasted a slight decrease to $784 million. This year, McGraw-Hill Construction the parent company of this magazine forecasts a 14% increase to $894 million in construction starts for the three-state region.

Arizona has the largest market of the region and is forecast with $486 million in healthcare-related construction starts.
