Our ranking of the top design firms is based on information gathered through hundreds of surveys sent to architects and engineers throughout Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada. Thank you to all of the firms who provided us with their information, allowing us to produce the most detailed ranking of its kind in the Southwest.

This year we’ve expanded the ranking to include the top 150 design firms, which are ranked by their revenue in the Southwest for 2006. Rankings are also provided for each state, as well as various categories such as healthcare, surveying and transportation.

The Top 150 reported $1.75 billion in design work for 2006, a 14.4% increase over 2005. This reflects another year of gains for design professionals, which had jumped 12.5% last year, 8.7% in 2004 and 16% in 2003.

Arizona firms as a whole edged closer to the $1 billion mark, reporting a total of $969 million of design work performed in the state. This was more than 10% over last year.

Nevada gained nearly 15% over 2005, while New Mexico posted another new high of $273 million, a huge 28% leap.

The region continues a five-year period of robust growth in architectural and engineering revenue, signaling continued growth for the entire construction industry in the Southwest.
